£169 Netbook announced

Maplin have announced a new netbook, called the miniBook, which is available to buy now for just £169. This is possibly the cheapest netbook available in the UK.

The miniBook measures just 222 x 165 x 30mm, weighs in at 650g and sports a 7in, 800 x 480 pixel display. We're talking proper cheap as chips stuff here.

The netbook is based on an unspecified 32-bit CPU and has 128MB of DDR 2 memory. You’ll also get 2GB of NAND Flash storage capacity. That's not really anywhere near enough, so you'd need a USB memory key to store your documents and files.

Alternatively, you could bang in a high capacity SDHC card to increase the storage capacity. The miniBook also has three USB ports. Linux comes pre-installed.

Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g is supported, but Reg Hardward reports that it can be a bit temperamental - however, it does come with an ethernet port.
